PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Max Alba, Franklin: Last week might have been the one that proves to be the difference in the Sabers’ first conference title in 10 years and Alba, the team’s 6-foot-5 senior, played a huge role. On Tuesday in a 52-44 victory over a Racine Park team that entered play tied for first, he posted a team-high 14 points on 5-of-14 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds. Three days later, he hit 11 of 22 shots and finished with 29 points and 13 rebounds, both team highs, in a 58-51 overtime victory over Kenosha Bradford that allowed Franklin to avenge its only loss of the season.
HONORABLE MENTION Jay Gentry, Brown Deer:
The senior guard went off for a career-high 45 points in a victory Friday over Cudahy, but first he led a second-half charge that resulted in a 75-70 victory over Whitnall on Tuesday that gave the Falcons a chance at their sixth straight Woodland East title. He finished that game with 26 points on 8-of-18 shooting with five rebounds and four assists.
Jalen Holley, Wauwatosa East:
The senior guard/forward helped the Red Raiders extend their Greater Metro winning streak to three games by registering his second and third straight double-doubles. He recorded 26 points and 10 rebounds in a 69-61 victory over Wauwatosa West on Tuesday then posted 17 points and 19 boards in a 78-67 win over Menomonee Falls on Friday.
Tre Valeriano, St. Thomas More:
The freshman guard returned after a twogame absence and scored a career-high 19 points in a 67-49 victory over Catholic Central on Friday. He made six of eight shots and was 4 of 6 from three-point range.
The 1,000-point club:
A handful of area players have reached the milestone in the past couple of weeks. Here is the roll call: Dominican senior Gacoby Jones, Milwaukee Washington junior Deontay Long and New Berlin Eisenhower senior Bryce Miller.
