Justin Vernon teases lineup for Eaux Claires
Justin Vernon’s Eaux Claires music festival has been different from its inception, from one-of-a-kind collaborative performances to literary readings in a mobile hotel room.
But even by its standards, the latest bit of Eaux Claires news is a bit out there, and risky.
On Jan. 25, Vernon implied on Twitter that the Eaux Claires lineup is set but that “it will be a surprise when you get there.”
Vernon also confirmed on Twitter some of the acts that will be playing his hometown festival in Eau Claire, including Sufjan Stevens, Noname, Julien Baker, Phil Cook and Francis and the Lights.
He said acclaimed indie rock band the National was planning something “insanely out of normal bounds.” The National’s Aaron Dessner is the cofounder and co-curator of Eaux Claires.
Vernon said there was a high probability Moses Sumney, Hiss Golden Messenger, John Shade and his own side project Big Red Machine will play the festival. Unfortunately for Kendrick Lamar fans, Vernon said there was “no chance” of booking the superstar rapper, but Vernon said Arcade Fire could perform.
Eaux Claires’ lineup information has not been posted on the festival website or on its social media pages. Two-day passes and camping passes are available at eauxclaires.com.
The fourth installment of Eaux Claires is taking place July 6 and 7. Summerfest is also taking place on those dates, but there’s a fair chance some Eaux Claire acts could also play the Big Gig. Vernon’s best-known-project, Bon Iver, will play its first Milwaukee show in seven years Feb. 17 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center. The sold-out concert is in commemoration of the 10th anniversary of Bon Iver’s breakout debut album, “For Emma, Forever Ago.”
