Goodell eyes legal fees from Jones
Roger Goodell is not expected to technically fine Jerry Jones for “conduct detrimental to the league,” but the Dallas Cowboys owner will indeed be on the hook for “millions” of dollars, stemming from his rift last year with the National Football League Commissioner, a person with knowledge of the situation said Monday.
Jones, the person said, will be ordered to repay legal costs incurred by other NFL owners for two high-profile clashes with the league.
He first clashed with the Goodell on Ezekiel Elliott's six-game suspension for violation of the NFL’s personal conduct policy amid domestic violence allegations. The Cowboys running back appealed to three courts before the ban was ultimately upheld.
Jones also threatened to sue other owners while contesting negotiations for the five-year extension of Goodell’s contract that was ultimately approved by owners.
The repayment of legal fees is covered by a resolution dating back roughly 20 years, and other NFL owners in other cases have similarly been ordered to provide restitution in battling the league.
Jets linebacker faces charges: New York Jets linebacker Dylan Donahue was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Monday morning after he drove the wrong way through the Lincoln Tunnel and crashed head-on into a shuttle bus, authorities said.
Donahue, a fifth-round pick in 2017 who appeared in just four games, blew a .15 on a Breathalyzer test. According to the Port Authority, Donahue drove around traffic cones and into a lane against traffic. Four of the 15 people aboard the bus suffered minor injuries.
Donahue’s passenger was also charged with disorderly conduct and obstruction during the crash investigation.
Bills reel in Davis: Two-time Pro Bowl cornerback Vontae Davis is joining the Buffalo Bills.
Davis, 29, was released by the Indianapolis Colts last November after complaining about his benching by thencoach Chuck Pagano. He also required groin surgery and spent the rest of the year unsigned as he recovered.
