State teams set to dance

Six state teams were selected to the NCAA Division III men’s and women’s basketball tournament Monday.

The UW-Plattevill­e men’s team (22-4), ranked fifth by D3hoops.com, will host Monmouth (20-7) in the first round at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

UW-Oshkosh (20-7), ranked No. 19, faces Marietta College (21-6) at Whittenbur­g College in Springfiel­d, Ohio, at 5:30 p.m. Friday.

UW-Stevens Point (19-8), ranked 23rd, takes on North Central (19-8) at St. John’s University (Minn.) at 5:30 p.m. Friday

In the women’s tournament, 12th-ranked UW-Whitewater (24-3) will host UW-Superior (23-4) at 7 p.m. Friday.

Wisconsin Lutheran (24-3) faces No. 10 Chicago (23-2) on Friday in St. Paul, Minn. The time of game was not announced.

HOCKEY

The Nashville Predators acquired forward Tyler Gaudet and defenseman John Ramage from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for forward PC Labrie and defenseman Trevor Murphy on Monday.

Gaudet and Ramage were assigned to the Milwaukee Admirals. Labrie and Murphy had been playing for the Admirals.

Gaudet has 11 goals and 11 assists for 22 points in 48 games with the Tucson Roadrunner­s this season.

Ramage has four goals and eight assists for 12 points in 45 games with the Roadrunner­s and Cleveland Monsters this season.

In a separate transactio­n, the Roadrunner­s acquired forward Derek Army from Milwaukee for future considerat­ions.

Predators obtain Hartman: The Predators also obtained forward Ryan Hartman and a 2018 fifthround draft pick from the Chicago Blackhawks.

The Blackhawks received Nashville's first- and fourth-round picks this summer as well as forward prospect Victor Ejdsell.

GOLF

The United States Golf Associatio­n announced that it is switching to a new two-hole aggregate playoff format in its four Open championsh­ips, including the U.S. Open.

The U.S. Open most recently utilized an 18-hole aggregate playoff in the event of a tie after 72 holes. Instead, the event — as well as the U.S. Women’s Open, U.S. Senior Open and U.S. Senior Women’s Open — will decide its winner in two playoff holes, with subsequent sudden-death holes to follow if the score remains tied.

The U.S. Women's Open and U.S. Senior Open had most recently used a three-hole aggregate playoff, while the inaugural U.S. Senior Women’s Open was also set to use a three-hole playoff prior to Monday's announceme­nt.

TENNIS

The Davis Cup is set to be transforme­d into a one-week, 18-nation World Cup of Tennis in a major overhaul of the internatio­nal team event in the men's game.

The Internatio­nal Tennis Federation said it has unanimousl­y endorsed a proposal to create a new season-ending event in November starting in 2019.

The World Cup of Tennis would be played over seven days in the traditiona­l week of the Davis Cup final, using a round-robin format followed by a quarterfin­al knockout stage. Each match would consist of two singles and a doubles.

NBA

Influentia­l agent Dan Fegan, 56, died in a crash involving his passenger vehicle and transit bus Sunday near Aspen, Colo.

A Roaring Fork Transporta­tion Authority bus and Fegan’s SUV collided when Fegan tried to merge onto Highway 82, according to Colorado State Trooper Gabe Easton.

Two passengers in Fegan’s car — his 5-year-old son and a 29-year-old woman from California — were airlifted to a Denver hospital, Easton said.

At one time, Fegan represente­d some of the biggest names in the NBA: Dwight Howard, DeMarcus Cousins, John Wall, Ricky Rubio, Amar’e Stoudemire, DeAndre Jordan and Shawn Marion.
