CAMP REPORT

- Todd Rosiak and Tom Haudricourt

On the field: The Rockies scored a run in the bottom of the ninth off Radames Liz and tied the Brewers, 4-4. Junior Guerra started and went 51⁄3 innings, allowing eight hits and three runs with one walk and four strikeouts.

“I thought that was kind of vintage Junior,” manager Craig Counsell said. “He had to get through the first couple of innings, then I thought he got better as the game went on. You see a lot of Junior Guerra starts where that’s how the start goes.”

In competition for a spot in the rotation, Guerra will make one more Cactus League start, on Sunday in the Brewers’ last game in Arizona against the White Sox. Then, he’ll learn his fate.

“I’m giving everything possible I have,” said Guerra, who has a rare fourth minor-league option remaining. “I’m healthy. That’s the thing that’s important right now. I don’t know what’s going to happen. It’s hard but it is what it is.”

Brett Phillips gave the Brewers a 4-3 lead in the eighth with a two-run homer, his first of the spring.

Weather: Sunny, 72 degrees. Cactus Juice: Count Counsell among those who enjoyed the Brewers’ take on the movie “Sandlot” the team released on Sunday night.

“It was pretty amazing,” Counsell said. “I remember walking and seeing them all back there. I didn’t have any idea what was going on. But the casting was brilliant. You can watch that thing a whole bunch and keep picking out things that were really funny.”

Counsell is also eagerly awaiting the release of the shoot’s outtakes.

“The outtakes are rumored to be better,” he said.
