Cole Swindell, Why Don’t We playing State Fair

- Piet Levy

Country hit-maker Cole Swindell and Why Don’t We — poised to be the next major boy band post-One Direction — are the latest acts scheduled for the Wisconsin State Fair.

Swindell — at one time, Luke Bryan’s merch guy — returns to the Milwaukee area after opening for Dierks Bentley at the American Family Insurance Amphitheater for Summerfest last year.

In addition to co-writing 10 No. 1 country hits for Bryan, Florida Georgia Line and Thomas Rhett, five of Swindell’s own songs have topped the charts, including “Chillin’ It” and “You Should Be Here.” His latest single, “Break Up In the End,” is expected to appear on a new album this year. He’ll be on the fair’s main stage Aug. 7.

Why Don’t We will be there Aug. 8. Since its formation in 2016, the boy band has accumulated 140 million YouTube views and 120 million audio streams, and Ed Sheeran wrote its best-known song to date, “Trust Fund Baby.” The group also sold out many of the shows on its spring tour, including at the Rave earlier this month.

Tickets are $35 to $45 for Swindell and $25 to $35 for Why Don’t We. They’re available beginning at 9 a.m. April 6 at the fair ticket office (7722 W. Greenfield Ave. in West Allis), by calling (800) 514-3849 or visiting wistate fair.com.

Tickets are also available for these State Fair Main Stage shows: Montgomery Gentry (Aug. 2); Alice Cooper (Aug. 3); Huey Lewis & the News with the Original Wailers (Aug. 4); the Happy Together tour (Aug. 5); Casting Crowns (Aug. 6); TLC with En Vogue (Aug. 10); and Reba McEntire (Aug. 12).

The Wisconsin State Fair runs from Aug. 2 to 12.
