Giants trade star DE Pierre-Paul to the Buccaneers

-

The New York Giants traded defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for draft picks Thursday, another step by a team rebuilding after a 3-13 season.

Pierre-Paul is a former first-round draft choice whose career was interrupted by a fireworks accident in 2015 that severely damaged his right hand. He helped the Giants win a Super Bowl in the 2011 season.

“We appreciate everything Jason has done for the Giants,” new general manager Dave Gettleman said. “He was a fine player for us.”

The Giants will get Tampa Bay’s thirdround draft pick (69th overall) this season. The teams will swap fourth-round picks, with the Bucs moving up to the 102nd pick and the Giants selecting 108th.

The Bucs had 22 sacks last season and they have been shoring up their line. Defensive end Vinny Curry was signed after being released by the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles and defensive tackles Beau Allen and Mitch Unrein also were signed

Pierre-Paul had 68 tackles, 8⁄ 12 sacks and two forced fumbles last season. He had 58 12 ⁄ career sacks since he was drafted in 2010 with the 15th pick overall out of South Florida.

Gore will join Dolphins: Frank Gore has agreed to terms with the Miami Dolphins.

The durable Gore would provide depth at running back behind Kenyan Drake, who became a starter last season and averaged 4.8 yards per carry.

Gore, who turns 35 next month, grew up in South Florida and played for the Miami Hurricanes. He has rushed for 14,026 yards in his NFL career, including 961 last year for the Indianapolis Colts, and ranks fifth on the all-time list.

Bears keep Timu: The Chicago Bears

re-signed linebacker John Timu to a oneyear contract.

Timu has 53 tackles in three seasons with the Bears.

Buffalo receiver won’t face charges: Los Angeles prosecutors said they are declining to bring charges against a Buffalo Bills receiver Zay Jones days after a naked, bloody argument with his brother.

Paul Eakins, a spokesman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office, said that prosecutors are declining the case due to insufficient evidence.

Jones, whose legal name is Isaiah Avery Jones, was arrested Monday night on suspicion of felony vandalism after police said officers found him “breaking glass doors and windows” in an apartment building.

The arrest was first reported by TMZ, which posted a video showing a nude Zay Jones pushing his brother, Cayleb, in what appeared to be the hallway of an apartment building. Cayleb Jones is a Minnesota Vikings receiver.
