Absentee ballots available for Aug. 14 state primary

MADISON - Absentee ballots for the Aug. 14 primary are available statewide and many municipalities are offering early voting.

According to the Wisconsin Elections Commission, people wishing to vote early should contact the clerk in their municipality to see what times they can vote. If a clerk doesn’t have regular hours, voters can schedule an appointment.

Larger cities have locations other than the municipal building where early voting takes place. In Madison, for instance, there are 14 locations for early voting available.

For the primary, Milwaukee has just one early voting location — the Zeidler Municipal Building, 841 N. Broadway. (For the Nov. 6 general election, the city will have eight early voting sites, but the locations have not been finalized, said Neil Albrecht, executive director of the Milwaukee Election Commission.)

Voters may also request an absentee ballot by mail.

The deadline to request an absentee ballot for the primary is Aug. 9.

The last legal day for in-person early voting is Aug. 12, but the vast majority of municipalities have made Aug. 10 their deadline.

On the ballots are primaries to choose a Democratic nominee for governor and a Republican nominee for U.S. Senate, as well as primaries in some congressional and state legislative races. Voters can vote in only one party’s primary.
