WellsBarnett called attention to the unfair treatment of African-Americans in the South to effect change. Susan B. Anthony was a 19th-century champion of women’s suffrage. Dolores Huerta led a national grape boycott, advocating for better wages and working conditions. Elizabeth Blackwell was the first woman in America to earn a medical degree.
