Walker’s corporate welfare
A writer in a letter to the editor on Aug. 19 stated that “more Wisconsin voters believe they can vote themselves ‘gifts from the treasury’ without consequence … such a policy will lead to a collapse of the state” (“Given the number of Democrats, are we on a race to bankruptcy?”)
I really don’t know what the author is referring to. However, Governor Walker and the Republican-controlled state Legislature are handing out our state revenues at such a pace that the state could go bankrupt.
The Milwaukee Bucks received $250 million for their new arena. Firserv received $12.5 million while spending millions to buy naming rights for 25 years for the Bucks arena. Foxconn is getting more than $3 billion in state money for its factory being built in Racine. Kimberly Clark is being considered for over $100 million in state handouts for keeping 610 jobs in the Fox Cities.
If anything bankrupts the state, it will be Walker’s corporate welfare. I always thought that the Republican Party stood for free markets and not an economy built on government giveaways.
