Fourth-ranked Oshkosh falls

The UW-Oshkosh football team moved up a weight class and paid the price Saturday.

The Titans, ranked fourth by D3football.com, struggled mightily on offense en route to a 7-3 loss to Davenport at Farmers Insurance Athletic Complex in Caledonia, Mich.

Davenport is a third-year program and is in its second season in NCAA Division II.

Division III Oshkosh (1-1) mustered just 127 yards against the Panthers. Oshkosh has scored 17 points in two weeks and had an average of 166.5 yards of total offense.

In addition, the Titans were 1 of 13 on third down and 1 of 5 on fourth down.

Davenport is 2-0 to start the season for the first time and allowed just 10 points in its two wins.

The Panthers scored all the points they needed when quarterbac­k Haiden Majewski ran 7 yards for a touchdown with 2 minutes, 58 seconds to go in the second quarter.

Oshkosh finally got on the scoreboard with 14:10 to go in the game on Peyton Peterson’s 37-yard field goal.

The final pass of the game by Titans quarterbac­k Steven Makinen was picked off by Chad Hill at the Davenport 25 and returned 10 yards before a slide to the turf as time ran out sealed the victory.

UW-Whitewater 24, Concordia Moorhead (Minn.) 6: Cole Wilber threw two touchdown passes in the first half as the host Warhawks reeled off 24 straight points and coasted past the Cobbers.

Wilber went 20 of 28 for 223 yards for the 12th-ranked Warhawks (2-0).

Whitewater’s Alex Peete had 19 carries for 104 yards and a touchdown.

UW-La Crosse 34, Illinois Wesleyan 31: Ryan Beirne booted a 20-yard field goal as time expired and the Eagles (2-0) upset the 21st-ranked Titans at Tucci Stadium in Bloomingto­n, Ill.

The Titans erased a 15-point deficit in the fourth quarter and tied the game at 31-31 on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Bauer to Jack Healy.

The Eagles went 74 yards on eight plays to set up the winning kick.

Bethel 32, UW-River Falls 27: The Royals opened up a 20-point lead and then had to stave off a late rally by the visiting Falcons (1-1).

Ben Beckman threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Alex Herink with 1:13 left as the Falcons closed to a fivepoint deficit.

But the Royals then recovered the ensuing onside kick and ran out the clock.

Wabash 16, UW-Stevens Point 13: Austin Hoover scored on a 5-yard run with 13:38 remaining and the Little Giants held off the Pointers (0-2) on a rainy day in Crawfordsv­ille, Ind.

Beloit 23, Knox 20: Juan Reyes’ 37yard field goal as time expired gave the host Buccaneers a victory over the Prairie Fire.

Beloit (1-1) trailed, 20-7, heading into the fourth quarter.

Ripon 70, Finlandia 0: Cormac Madigan rushed for 135 yards and two touchdowns and the host Red Hawks (1-1) drubbed the Lions.

The Red Hawks held the Lions to just 130 total yards.

Carlton 44, Lawrence 23: The host Knights reeled off the game’s last 24 points to stun the Vikings (1-1).

Knights quarterbac­k Christian Zaytoun threw for 305 yards and five touchdowns.

Lawrence Tech 30, Wisconsin Lutheran 22: Tyler Kulka scored on a 12yard run with 4:29 left as the Blue Devils beat the host Warriors (0-2).

Kulka rushed for 212 yards and three TDs.

Augsburg 27, Condordia (Wis.) 24: Aaron Nixon tossed a 24-yard touchdown pass to Josh Sanders with 13 seconds left to give the Auggies a victory over the Falcons (1-2) in Mequon.

UW-Stout 24, Gustavus Adolphus 23: Aaron Wisecup blocked an extra point attempt in overtime and the visiting Blue Devils (1-1) escaped with a victory over the Golden Gusties.
