PLAYERS TO WATCH
Division 1 singles
Autumn Bruno, soph., Whitnall
(20-2): A fourth-place finisher last year, Bruno’s only losses have come to Woodland rival Lauren Landstrom. She is the No. 11 seed.
Emily Horneffer, sr., Brookfield East
(18-6): The No. 7 seed was the runner-up in the Greater Metro. This will be her third state appearance.
Lauren Landstrom, jr., New Berlin
Eisenhower (15-5): She made a big jump this year, going from an unseeded qualifier the past two seasons to the No. 10 qualifier this season.
Bojana Pozder, fr., Racine Case
(34-0): The No. 1 seed has won all but two of her matches in straight sets
Logan White, sr., DSHA (26-2): A fifth-place finisher the past two seasons, the Greater Metro champion is the No. 2 seed this year. With two three-set losses, she has given been Pozder’s toughest competition.
Jordan Schifano, jr., DSHA (27-0): She did most of her damage while playing the No. 2 spot for the Dashers, but she has scored victories over state qualifiers Yang and Horneffer. She finished third last year.
Natalie Yang, jr., Homestead (28-5):
The North Shore champion arrives at state with the No. 5 seed and an 11match winning streak. She qualified as a No. 2 player last year and won one match.
Division 1 doubles
Annabelle Crowley, sr., and Emma
Koppa, sr., Nicolet (24-3): The No. 2 seed placed fifth last season. Their losses this season came to No. 1 seed Maddie Clark and Karsen Dettman of Middleton and ninth-seeded Bridget Brown and Kate Wade of Homestead.
Claudia Hueth, sr., and Ava Anderson, jr., Badger (19-1): The Southern Lakes champion is seeded third and arrives at state with its only loss coming to a team that wasn’t paired together for the postseason.
Gabby Majinski, sr., and Julia Hintz, sr., New Berlin Eisenhower (23-1): Last year Majinski teamed up with departed senior Samantha Ramsey to upset the tournament’s top seed and finish fourth. This year she and Hintz have lost only to Nicolet’s team of Crowley and Koppa.
Division 2 singles
Olivia Czerwonka, sr., Kenosha St. Joseph (18-0): The No. 1 seed has won all but one of her matches in straight sets.
Veda Sane, sr., University School
(20-2): The defending state champion, the No. 3 seed this year, has losses to DSHA’s White in straight sets and to Czerwonka’s in three.
Division 2 doubles
Giana Apostoli, sr., and Megan Setter, sr., Kenosha St. Joseph (18-0): Setter teamed up with graduate senior Kaitlyn Kalinka to be an undefeated state champion last year. Setter and Apostoli haven’t dropped a set this season.
Mackenzie Lindow, sr., and Erin Rice, sr., East Troy (30-1) : The Trojans' tandem, which finished sixth last year, is the No. 2 seed behind Kenosha St. Joseph’s team, which beat Lindow and Rice at the sectional.
