Piercy leads CJ Cup by one

Scott Piercy led a dominant American leader board at the PGA Tour’s CJ Cup at Nine Bridges on Friday with a 7-under 65 to take a one-stroke lead after two rounds in Jeju Island, South Korea.

Piercy had a 36-hole total of 9-under 135, one ahead of Brooks Koepka, who also shot 65 and is playing in his first tournament since being voted PGA Tour player of the year.

Fellow American Chez Reavie, who led by one stroke after the first round, was in third, three strokes behind Piercy.

Sweden’s Alex Noren (65) and Ian Poulter (69) of England were tied for fourth, four behind.

Five Americans – Brian Harman with a roundof-the-day 64, Ryan Armour and Gary Woodland (67s) and Jamie Lovemark and Pat Perez (68s) – were tied for sixth, five strokes behind Piercy.

AUTO RACING

Joey Logano qualified on the pole for Sunday’s Hollywood Casino 400 in Kansas City, Kan.

Logano turned in a lap of lap of 191.646 mph Friday at Kansas Speedway.

Kevin Harvick qualified second. Aric Almirola, Ryan Blaney and Brad Keselowski rounded out the top five.

GOLF

Sei Young Kim led the LPGA Shanghai by one stroke at the halfway point after shooting a 5-under-par 67 in the second round.

Danielle Kang (68) and overnight leader Jutanugarn (69) were one shot back.

Champions Tour: Scott Dunlap and Fran Quinn shot 5-under 67 to share the first-round lead in the playoff-opening Dominion Energy Charity Classic in Richmond, Va.

Madison’s Jerry Kelly opened with a 72.

The All England Club said it will introduce finalset tiebreaker­s next year, starting when the score reaches 12-12 in the decider.

The grass-court Grand Slam tournament is the second of the four majors to use a final-set tiebreaker to determine a singles match – either the fifth set in a men’s match or the third set for the women. The U.S. Open, however, starts its final-set tiebreaker­s at 6-6.

Sophie Shirley had two goals and an assist as the second-ranked Wisconsin women’s team beat visiting Princeton, 4-3.

Alexis Mauermann and Abby Roque scored for the Badgers (7-0-0).

Clarkson 4, UW men 2: Kevin Charyszyn scored the tie-braking goal with 6:32 to go and the host Golden Knights upset the 13th-ranked Badgers (2-1-0).
