Hom Wood Fired Grill closing at Bayshore

- Chris Foran

Hom Wood Fired Grill at Bayshore Town Center has closed, according to owner and operator SURG Restaurant Group.

In a weekend statement, SURG said it had decided not to renew the restaurant’s five-year lease at 5750 N. Port Washington Road in Glendale, “with goals to focus on SURG’s downtown venues.”

SURG also owns Carnevor Steakhouse Moderne, Gouda’s Italian Deli and Bugsy’s Back Alley Speakeasy, SURG on the Water, The Garden, and Lucid Light Lounge, all either downtown or in the Third Ward.

Another downtown SURG property, Mikey’s, recently stopped holding regular hours but is still hosting some events.

Hom (pronounced “home”) Wood Fired Grill began as a restaurant in 2014, with a farm-to-table menu driven by Wisconsin-centric ingredients. SURG also had a Hom location in Brookfield, which closed in 2016.

In an email, Omar Shaikh, president of SURG Restaurant Group, said the company doesn’t have any plans to bring back the Hom format but hasn’t “ruled out the possibility.”

Hom is the second restaurant to close at Bayshore in the past week.

Sprecher’s Restaurant & Pub closed its doors Thursday, saying it had decided not to renew its lease after five and a half years. The operators of the restaurant, licensed but not owned by the Glendale-based brewery, said it hoped to find a Milwaukee-area location in the future.
