Man struck, injured by semi on I-43

A 54-year-old man who walked into a southbound lane of I-43 in Ozaukee County was struck and critically injured by a semitraile­r truck Monday night, the Ozaukee County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Illinois man had pulled his Jeep onto the shoulder of the southbound lanes near Highway 60 in the Town of Grafton about 6:25 p.m. The man walked into the semi’s lane and was hit, the Sheriff ’s Office said.

The man was taken to a nearby hospital and then by Flight for Life to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa. He had life-threatenin­g injuries, the Sheriff ’s Office said. The semi driver was a 32-year-old Missouri man.

I-43 southbound was closed for about two hours because of the incident.

Man dies when ATV falls through ice

FOND DU LAC - Peter A. Zacherl of Fond du Lac died when the ATV he was driving fell through the ice on Lake Winnebago.

Zacherl, 55, was the president and fifth generation owner of Zacherl Funeral Home in Fond du Lac.

The Fond du Lac County Sheriff ’s Office received a call about 9:30 p.m. Monday from someone on the lake who said three people in his group had fallen through the ice.

An ATV driven by Zacherl and one driven by a 23year-old Fond du Lac man with a 22-year-old female passenger from Brownsvill­e went through the ice.

The 23-year-old man was able to quickly get his passenger out of the water. He unsuccessf­ully tried to rescue Zacherl.
