Good City taproom opens across from Fiserv Forum

- Kathy Flanigan

Good City Brewing has opened its doors to its 200-seat taproom and brewery across from Fiserv Forum. It’ll be open for events at the new arena Thursday, with the taproom’s soft opening starting Friday.

Good City, which opened its original brewery at 2108 N. Farwell Ave. in 2016, becomes the first tenant in Fiserv Forum’s entertainment block development.

Starting Friday, the taproom and brewery will open at 4 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. on weekends. Food service and extended hours will begin in early February with a grand opening party planned for the weekend of Feb. 22.

Production at the downtown brewery will focus on wild ales — a process best completed in an environment outside traditional ales and lagers, because wild yeast and bacteria are purposefully introduced into the brewing process.

Beer lovers won’t get to sample those beers until fall because they’ll need to age for several months in the foeders — large wooden vats that will be featured prominently in a corner of the first floor of the Good City space called the Oak Room. The Oak Room will be available to reserve for groups of up to 20 people.

The downtown brewery also will be used as a pilot brewing system that will be visible from the taproom. The onebarrel system will help Good City experiment with different styles and recipes, and customers will be able to try experimental batches when they are on tap.

The new taproom/brewery’s main floor will feature 32 taps, an open kitchen, indoor seating for 200 and garage doors that will open to the entertainment block. Chef Guy Davies will feature foods available at the Farwell location but also new items centered around a pizza oven concept.

The second level is called Good City Commons, a 350-seat event space and outdoor patio overlooking the entertainment plaza. The space will host private and public events, such as a postgame beer garden and a Friday fish fry.

Visitors can get a look at the space and drink a beer in front of the soaring windows on Friday.

Last summer, Good City announced it would move its corporate offices and warehouse operations to the Century City Business Park on Milwaukee’s northwest side. The company’s corporate offices and a cooler move in in March.
