Funeral for slain officer set for Wednesday.
The visitation and funeral services for slain Milwaukee Police Officer Matthew Rittner have been scheduled for Wednesday at Oak Creek Assembly of God Church.
A 17-year veteran of the department, Rittner was fatally shot with a high-powered rifle Wednesday as a team of officers tried to serve a search warrant at a south-side duplex in an investigation into illegal gun and drug sales.
The suspect, 26-year-old Jordan Fricke, is being held in the Milwaukee County Jail on a preliminary bail of $500,000. He is expected to be charged as early as this weekend.
The public visitation for Rittner is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday at the church, 7311 S. 13th St., in Oak Creek, with the service and military honors to follow, according to a statement issued by Milwaukee Police Department. Rittner will be taken by procession afterward to Krause Funeral Home at 21600 W. Capitol Drive, in Brookfield.
A private visitation for Milwaukee police officers and firefighters and military personnel will be from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church, police said.
Rittner, who worked on the Tactical Enforcement Unit, was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran who served two tours in Iraq. He was married with a young son.
