CAMP REPORT

- Todd Rosiak

On the field: With the temperatures in the 40s in the mornings, the Brewers have been starting their workouts around noon since reporting last week. The highs aren’t expected to get out of the 50s all this coming week, either, so there are sure to be plenty of long sleeves and hoodies being utilized when the first fullsquad workout takes place on Tuesday.

One area that’s been used heavily so far is the new agility field, located directly south of the newly expanded clubhouse building. It features both natural and artificial grass and plays host each day to all sorts of drills and games, including an area where pitchers who are between bullpen sessions play games like “Flip” to concentrate on their footwork.

“It’s the best part of the complex, for sure,” manager Craig Counsell said. “I think the place was set up for that to have a very campus feel. It has already, for sure.”

57 degrees, partly sunny.

First Cactus League game, Saturday, Feb. 23 vs. Cubs in Mesa.

Add acting to Christian Yelich’s already lengthy résumé. On the heels of being named the National League’s most valuable player, he flew out to Hawaii for a few days in January to shoot a small part for CBS’ reboot of “Magnum P.I.”

“I had a few lines and played myself in it,” he said. “It’s something that’s different that you don’t get to do all the time, so why not do it? If you’re able to, might as well take advantage of it, experience it and have a little fun. It was a little work doing it obviously, but I think when it all comes out it’ll end up being worth it.”

Yelich also guest-hosted an episode of MTV’s “Ridiculousness” with wellknown skateboarder Rob Dyrdek, although that appearance only required a 30-minute drive from Yelich’s home.

Countdown:

38 days until the Brewers’ season opener on March 28 vs. St. Louis at Miller Park.
