Player of the week

David Markes, Wauwatosa East: The senior middle hitter led the Red Raiders over with Waukesha West, Brookfield Central and Racine Horlick plus led the team to a second-place finish at the Whitefish Bay Invite on Saturday. He recorded 102 kills, 36 digs, 15 blocks and seven assists in the nine matches.

HONORABLE MENTION Nathan Klimisch, Kenosha Indian Trail: The senior outside hitter posted 14 kills with a .520 hitting percentage and eight digs in a 25-14, 25-19, 25-18 victory over Racine Horlick on Wednesday.

Germantown

The defending state champion captured one of the state’s top tournament, the Whitefish Bay Invite, on Saturday. The Warhawks defeated New Berlin, Burlington and Homestead in pool play. They then beat Madison Memorial and Middleton in the quarterfin­als and semifinals and knock off Wauwatosa East, 2-1, in the final. Seniors Drew Jansen and Simon Quella led the team with 41 kills each. Other team leaders were senior Adam Lopata with 35 digs, senior Hans Stelpflug with 112 assists, senior Jackson Van Engen with 21 blocks and senior Ben Schultz with 16 aces.

Racine Horlick at Franklin, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday: Franklin can clinch a share of the Southeast Conference title.

Pius XI at New Berlin United, 6:30 p.m. Wednesday: Woodland leader Pius tries to complete an undefeated season in the league by beating second-place New Berlin.

Waukesha West at Catholic Memorial, 7 p.m. Wednesday: It’s first place vs. second, respective­ly, in the Classic 8.

Germantown at Brookfield East, 7 p.m. Wednesday: The top-ranked Warhawks try to complete their second straight undefeated season in the Classic 8.

Classic 8 tournament, 9 a.m. Saturday at Mukwonago: Waukesha West and Catholic Memorial are the teams to beat.
