Woman missing from psychiatri­c hospital found dead in river


A 59-year-old woman who left on foot Monday from Aurora Psychiatri­c Hospital was found dead Tuesday in the Menomonee River near Jacobus Park in Wauwatosa, police said.

At 4:50 p.m. Oct. 7, police were sent to the Aurora Psychiatri­c Hospital, 1220 Dewey Ave., for a report of that the woman left the hospital almost an hour prior, before she was to to be picked up by a family member.

Staff told police the woman had gone for walks in the area and returned to the facility in the past, including earlier in the day.

Police and family members checked the area but were unable to find her.

At 12:09 p.m. Tuesday, Wauwatosa police, the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office and Wauwatosa Fire Department were sent to Jacobus Park, 6501 Hillside Lane, for a report of a body in the water. Fire Department personnel recovered the body from the river, a news release said.
