Man seriously hurt by hit-and-run driver on northwest side

A 62-year-old man was seriously injured by a hit-and-run driver Wednesday morning on Milwaukee's northwest side, police said.

The man suffered life-threatenin­g injuries when he was struck about 10 a.m. at North 51st Street and West Capitol Drive, according to a news release.

According to the release, the man was struck by a vehicle that was eastbound on Capitol at high speed. The driver lost control and the vehicle went airborne before striking the man, a light pole and a bus shelter.

The driver, a 20-year-old man, fled but was later apprehende­d.
