Milwaukee City Attorney Grant Langley facing two primary competitors

- Alison Dirr Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

In addition to choosing the top two contenders for Milwaukee County executive and mayor, voters will have a series of other municipal and county choices to make in Tuesday’s primary election.

Among them: Milwaukee city attorney.

City Attorney Grant Langley announced in early December that he would run for another four-year term.

Langley had no opposition in the two decades between his first election in 1984 and 2004, when he received 63% of the vote in the April election, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel previously reported.

And it was three elections ago, in 2008, when Langley last had a challenger, according to records from the Milwaukee Election Commission. He took 59% of the vote that April.

But opposition is one thing he’s not short on this year. Attorneys Vincent Bobot and Tearman Spencer are vying to become the next city attorney.

Bobot is a former assistant city attorney, police officer and municipal judge who is now in private practice.

According to his campaign, he was a police officer from 1971 to 1993, an assistant city attorney from 1993 to 1999 and 2005 to 2008, and a Milwaukee municipal judge from 1999 to 2003.

Spencer is a private attorney whose practice handles real estate and business cases and consumer protection, according to his campaign.

The top two finishers in each race in Tuesday’s primary advance to the April 7 election.
