Billy Bragg booked for Shank Hall during DNC

Billy Bragg is the latest politicall­y charged artist heading to Milwaukee around the Democratic National Convention.

The rocker and activist will play Shank Hall July 16 to 18. The first night of Bragg’s Shank Hall residency will take place on the last night of the Democratic National Convention at Fiserv Forum and feature his current careerspan­ning set.

Bragg’s show July 17 will focus on material from his first three albums: “Life’s a Riot with Spy Vs. Spy,” “Brewing Up With Billy Bragg” and “Talking With The Taxman About Poetry.”

The final show will consist of material from his fourth, fifth and sixth albums: “Workers Playtime,” “The Internatio­nale” and “Don’t Try This At Home.”

The Democratic National Convention, running July 13 to 16, is expected to bring 50,000 visitors to Milwaukee, and area venues are booking political events during and around that week.

Just before the convention, Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy is hosting the first Wisconsin concert in 11 years for political rap-rock group Rage Against the Machine, which reunited specifically ahead of the 2020 election. Rap duo Run The Jewels is opening the show July 10.

nation.com. Proceeds over the base ticket price will be donated to local charities and activist organizati­ons.

The Pabst Theater Group is also hosting a couple of live tapings of political podcasts, bracketing the convention.

“Pod Saves America,” hosted by former aides to President Barack Obama, will record at the Riverside Theater July 12, the evening before the DNC begins. And on July 17, the night after the DNC concludes, the “Pantsuit Politics” podcast will record at the Back Room of Colectivo Coffee.
