MARINETTE - President Donald Trump is returning to Wisconsin this week.

Trump on Thursday will visit Fincantieri Marinette Marine in Marinette to tour the facility and deliver remarks, according the White House. He’s expected to discuss a $5.5 billion Navy contract awarded to the shipyard to build the service’s first new frigate and options for up to nine more.

Fincantieri plans to invest over $200 million in Wisconsin and create more than 1,000 jobs at the shipyard as a result of the contract, company and White House officials said.

“This action illustrates the president’s commitment to bolstering our country’s defense industrial base while underscoring a key principle of the administration: That economic security is national security,” John Horstman, a White House spokesman, told the Green Bay Press-Gazette on Friday.

The president last visited Wisconsin in January, when he stopped in Milwaukee.

The visit comes one day after Vice President Mike Pence is scheduled to visit Waukesha County to kick off his “Faith in America” tour. Pence stopped at the Marinette shipyard last year to tout the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement.

Trump’s visit also comes in the middle of his reelection bid against former Vice President Joe Biden, who secured the Democratic nomination earlier this month after a crowded primary contest. Both candidates hope to claim Wisconsin this November after Trump narrowly won the state in 2016, handing it to Republicans for the first time in years.
