State reports 385 new cases, 14 more deaths

Wisconsin health officials reported 385 new cases of coronaviru­s Saturday, the second highest increase in cases in the last two weeks.

Those 385 positive cases account for 3.8% of the 10,197 tests processed since Friday, according to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. As of Saturday, 24,539 Wisconsini­tes have tested positive for COVID-19.

The largest increase in cases in the last two weeks came Thursday, when 422 new positive tests were reported. Saturday’s percent of positive cases is also the second highest in the last 14 days, after Thursday’s rate of 4%.

Health officials reported 14 more people have died related to the virus, the most since June 9 when officials reported 15 people had died. The state’s total number of deaths stood at 744 Saturday.

Milwaukee County reported 292 additional cases and no deaths Saturday on its COVID-19 dashboard, which stands at 10,146 total cases and 331 deaths.

As of Saturday, 4,840 active COVID-19 cases existed in Wisconsin, or 20% of all confirmed cases. Seventysev­en percent of people have recovered and the remaining 3% of people have died, according to the state health department.

Statewide, 239 people with COVID-19 were hospitaliz­ed as of Saturday morning, which is 46 fewer people in the hospital than last Saturday, according to the Wisconsin Hospital Associatio­n. Of those patients, 90 are in the intensive care unit. Another 155 hospitaliz­ed patients are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test.

Several Green Bay-area restaurant­s, bars and a golf course have temporaril­y closed because of concerns that staff members had tested positive for the coronaviru­s or were exposed to the virus.

At least six businesses posted on their Facebook pages announcing their closures this week. Those included Cranky Pat’s Pizza, Stadium View Sports & Banquet Hall and others.

As of Saturday morning, more than 2,500 people in Brown County had tested positive for COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus.

Globally, more than 8.7 million people have tested positive for COVID-19, according to Johns Hopkins University. A quarter of all positive cases are in the United States, where more than 2,238,000 have tested positive and 119,200 people have died.
