Early MLB testing results encouraging
Major League Baseball and the players association released its first set of results Friday from intake testing for COVID-19 and the numbers were encouraging but not every team was included. The Milwaukee Brewers were among the teams still awaiting their test results as of late Friday afternoon.
Of the results that were in, there were 38 positive tests out of 3,185 samples collected, a 1.2% infection rate that was better than many expected. Of those positives, 31 are players and seven are staff members.
MLB said those positive tests came from a total of 19 different clubs but provided no breakdown.
“We are still waiting for our results,” said Brewers president of baseball operations David Stearns.
Beyond the Brewers, a report out of Oakland indicated the Athletics also were awaiting their test results. Teams are not required to reveal the names of players who test positive but among those known to do so were Cleveland's Delino DeShields, Minnesota's Willians Astudillo and San Diego's Tommy Pham.
All-Star Game canceled: Dodger Stadium's 40-year wait to host the AllStar Game is going to last even longer.
The game scheduled for July 14 was canceled because of the coronavirus pandemic, and Dodger Stadium was awarded the 2022 Midsummer Classic.
This year will be the first time since 1945 that no game is held.
Trout unsure about playing: Reigning American League MVP Mike Trout participated in the Los Angeles Angels first workout of summer camp, but said he hasn't made a final decision on playing this year.
Trout and his wife, Jessica, are expecting the couple's first child in August. The outfielder said his mindset is to play in the virus-delayed season, but a lot will hinge on how he feels the next couple weeks.
