One person dead in apartment fire in Cudahy

A 56-year-old woman died in a fire at Lake Shore Tower Apartments, 6260 S. Lake Drive in Cudahy, on Sunday.

The Cudahy Fire Department responded just after 7 a.m. and found heavy smoke streaming from an upper floor apartment on the south side of the building.

Many residents had evacuated, but firefighters assisted some residents to safety who were struggling through the smoke to get out. Some residents sheltered in place until firefighters could assist them.

Firefighters found the fire in one unit on the 10th floor. It sustained heavy damage.

Lake Shore Tower houses about 300 residents. About 50 people have been displaced.

One person killed, two injured in triple shooting in Milwaukee

The Milwaukee Police Department is investigat­ing a triple shooting that killed a 21-year-old man and injured two others.

The shooting occurred in the 2300 block of North 16th Avenue around 6:50 p.m. Saturday.

According to police, a 58-year-old man and 32year-old man suffered non-life-threatenin­g gunshot wounds. The victims were standing outside when they were shot.

15-year-old dies in hospital a day after being shot

A 15-year-old boy from Milwaukee died in a hospital a day after he and a 20-year-old woman were shot in the 2300 block of North 18th Street.

The shooting occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday; both victims were transporte­d to a hospital. The 15-year-old died of his injuries Saturday. Milwaukee police are searching for a suspect.

Milwaukee police are investigat­ing a car accident that killed one person at South 11th and West Historic Mitchell streets around 6 p.m. Saturday.

A 36-year-old Milwaukee man allegedly disregarde­d a red light and struck another vehicle driven by a 67-year-old man who died of his injuries, police said.

The 36-year-old was arrested.

28-year-old man drowns in Hartford’s downtown mill pond

A 28-year-old man drowned in Hartford’s downtown mill pond Saturday.

Police were called to the pond at 4:39 p.m. after a report of a swimmer in distress. Officers arrived in time to witness the victim go below the water surface but could not immediatel­y locate him underwater after leaping in after him, according to a statement.

The victim was pulled from the water at 5:41 p.m., after the Washington County Dive Team arrived on the scene, according to police.

The victim entered the water in an attempt to recover a remote-control boat that was sinking, witnesses told police.

DNC committee is donating school supplies to MPS

The Democratic National Convention committee is donating 75 Macbook Air computers and other supplies to Milwaukee Public Schools.

Milwaukee was supposed to host the full convention, but because of the coronaviru­s pandemic the DNC will now be mostly virtual.

The Macbook laptops were purchased in 2020 to be used by staff leading up to and during the convention. Now MPS will be able to use the computers as a tech resource for the upcoming school year.

In addition to the laptops, the convention team is donating dozens of computer monitors and accessorie­s, as well as thousands of dollars’ worth of office supplies.
