Wisconsin removed from Chicago’s quarantine order
Wisconsin residents can once again travel to Chicago without quarantining for 14 days after arrival.
The City of Chicago posted on its online Emergency Travel order dashboard that Wisconsin was removed, citing a drop in new daily cases below 15 daily infections per 100,000 residents.
The city reviews COVID-19 case data weekly and modifies its list every Tuesday. Changes go into effect on the following Friday.
On Tuesday, the Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 634 more COVID-19 cases and 13 more deaths.
Of 9,991 newly reported test results, 6.3% were positive. Over the last seven days, 7.7% have come back positive, according to the Department of Health Services — a rate last seen in early May.
Newly confirmed cases have gone down as test positivity has gone up, and the downward trend continued Tuesday. The seven-day average for newly confirmed cases fell to 721, its lowest point since July 13.
Wisconsin was placed on Chicago’s 14-day quarantine list at the end of July because of significant community coronavirus spread, driving the number of cases up to more than 15 cases per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average, the threshold for the order. Essential workers were not included in the travel order, but Chicago residents who visited Wisconsin were subject to the quarantine once they returned to the city.
Still under a 14-dayquarantine order for the city are states including Georgia, Florida and California, which have 20 to 30 daily infections per 100,000, according to the city’s site.
Residents of states still on the list are subject to fines of $100 to $500 per day, up to $7,000.
Chicago has seen over 66,000 positive tests for the coronavirus, with 2,830 deaths, according to city data.
