Man shot 3 people outside Mayville senior apartments, then shot himself
MAYVILLE - A 72-year-old man shot three people Wednesday night in the parking lot of a senior apartment building in Mayville, then turned the gun on himself, state officials said.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, a 53-year-old woman, a 64-year-old woman and a 67year-old man were in the parking lot of Spring Glen Apartments when the 72-year-old man approached. The group argued, and the man pulled out a gun, shot the women and man and then shot himself, according to the DOJ.
Officials did not say what the argument was about, but said the four people all knew each other.
Police, firefighters and paramedics responded around 7:30 p.m. to the apartment complex at 1118 Horicon St. The victims and accused shooter were each transported by medical helicopters to local trauma centers. All are expected to survive their injuries, according to the DOJ.
There is no danger to the public, officials said.
A portion of Horicon Street, also known as State 28, was closed in both directions from Dodge County TW to Clark Street Wednesday night while police investigated the shooting. Some businesses in the area, including the Piggly Wiggly grocery store, reported closing early Wednesday night.
The road has since reopened, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Mayville Mayor Rob Boelk said Wednesday was a “troubling and disturbing night” for Mayville and said he is keeping the victims and their families in his prayers.
The Mayville Police Department and the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation are leading the investigation. Assisting those departments are: Dodge County Sheriff’s Office, Horicon, Lomira and Theresa police departments, Wisconsin State Patrol and the Wisconsin State Crime Laboratory.
