The Truth, radio station focusing on Milwaukee’s Black community, to debut Jan. 4
The Truth, the new news-talk radio station focusing on Milwaukee’s Black community, will go on the air Jan. 4, with an on-air lineup including Milwaukee Bucks in-game hosts Joe Brown and Melanie Ricks, and community activist and advocate Tory Lowe.
On Monday, station owner Good Karma Brands announced the date and on-air lineup for the station, which will air at 101.7 on the FM dial. It’ll also be available on The Truth app and at 1017thetruth.com.
“Our goal when recruiting was to find talent who were unapologetically and authentically Milwaukee, and we are confident we chose outstanding leaders who have already made an impact on the city through their service, advocacy, and fight for justice and equality,” Kyle Wallace, operations manager for The Truth, said in a statement from the station.
The station’s lineup, starting Jan. 4, will be:
7 to 10 a.m.: Joe Brown and Melanie Ricks
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.: Sherwin Hughes, a public policy veteran, former host of “The Forum” radio show and executive director of Leaders for a Better Community in Milwaukee
1 to 4 p.m.: Tory Lowe
4 to 6 p.m.: Ken Harris, a retired Milwaukee police lieutenant, radio veteran and assistant dean of professional development at Concordia University Wisconsin in Mequon
For now, The Truth plans to re-air the day’s programs from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m.
The Truth’s spot on the FM dial had been the FM home of WRRD-AM (1510). Good Karma Brands, the sports broadcasting and marketing company that owns WTMJ-AM (620) and WKTI-FM (94.5) in Milwaukee, bought the AM station and its FM translator in September.
