Apartment fire on Lisbon Avenue displaces 70 residents
Dozens of residents were displaced after a fire ripped through 16 units of an apartment building in the Washington Park neighborhood on Tuesday.
The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a call about 5:30 p.m. for a fire in the 3900 block of West Lisbon Avenue. Fire department officials believe the fire started in the kitchen of a third floor unit but the incident is under investigation.
No injuries were reported. About 70 people were displaced from their residences and the American Red Cross has been assisting them in finding temporary housing and helping with other immediate needs.
According to the Red Cross, since Nov. 27, it has responded to more than double the number of house fires it normally responds to in Wisconsin, helping
roughly 400 people.
