Apartment fire on Lisbon Avenue displaces 70 residents

Dozens of residents were displaced after a fire ripped through 16 units of an apartment building in the Washington Park neighborho­od on Tuesday.

The Milwaukee Fire Department responded to a call about 5:30 p.m. for a fire in the 3900 block of West Lisbon Avenue. Fire department officials believe the fire started in the kitchen of a third floor unit but the incident is under investigat­ion.

No injuries were reported. About 70 people were displaced from their residences and the American Red Cross has been assisting them in finding temporary housing and helping with other immediate needs.

According to the Red Cross, since Nov. 27, it has responded to more than double the number of house fires it normally responds to in Wisconsin, helping

roughly 400 people.
