Holding them to account
Regarding former President Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, I find myself thinking about all that has transpired since Nov. 3. I think about Trump not accepting the results of the election and the Republicans going along with him so as to not incur Trump’s wrath, or the shouting at airports by Trump supporters to legislators on their way home from Washington.
I think of our own Sen. Ron Johnson repeating over and over that he just wants to find out the “truth” for the American public, as people deserve the right to know about the election results.
I am not happy that our country has to go through this yet another time, and it is not lost to me that it is over the very same person — Donald Trump. To our country’s representatives, I hope you all understand that we are not buying your line of “unconstitutionally.” People lost their lives. When is that not an accountable offense?
We are watching. We watched from our homes the chaos of Jan. 6 as the mob stormed the Capitol. We will form our own opinions, and we aren’t going to forget this so easily.
As I think about that horrific day in January over a month ago, I wonder what Brian Sicknick’s parents and family are thinking at this very moment. Are they, too, wondering if anyone will be held accountable, or will their son’s death be just an end result of our representatives, the people we elected to “uphold” the constitution of the United States, not doing their duty?
I ask each one of our representatives: How would you vote if it was your son who died?
