Cindric wins Xfinity opener in overtime
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Reigning series champion Austin Cindric opened his title defense with a victory in the crash-filled NASCAR Xfinity Series opener Saturday night at Daytona International Speedway.
CIndric led 28 of 122 laps in his Team Penske Ford Mustang and held off Brett Moffitt in overtime by 0.104 of a second. The win was his ninth in the series and first at the 2.6-mile track, as well as the first Xfinity win at Daytona for car owner Roger Penske.
Moffitt held on for second place, his career best in the Xfinity Series. Cousins Harrison and Jeb Burton grabbed third and fourth, respectively, with AJ Allmendinger finishing out the top five.
ARCA: Corey Heim took the checkered flag in the Lucas Oil 200. The 18year-old Heim held off his VMS teammate, pole-sitter Drew Dollar, on the last lap to win the season-opener.
Defending series champion Bret Holmes finished third ahead of Ty Gibbs in fourth and Kyle Sieg in fifth.
NASCAR Truck Series: Ben Rhodes raced to his first career victory at Daytona International Speedway with a lastcorner pass in the season-opening NextEra Energy 250 on Friday night.
Rhodes was tailing Cory Roper when he slowed to hook up with teammate Matt Crafton for a push. Crafton threw a block and darted to the top, creating momentum that helped Rhodes pull even with Roper.
Multiple trucks crashed behind the leaders and Rhodes edged ahead on the outside. Jordan Anderson ducked low around Rhodes and fell 0.036 behind catching Rhodes.
