Buyer for Zielinski home

The alderman’s Bay View home, dubbed the “Milwaukee Monstrosity,” is under contract.

There is a buyer for the Milwaukee Monstrosity.

Former Ald. Tony Zielinski has accepted an offer for his recently built 6,000-square-foot home at 3105 S. Superior St.

“The property is under contract, and the house is closing next week,” said Keller Williams real estate agent Jay Schimdt. “At this time, that is the only information I can provide.”

Asked about the sale price, Schmidt added: “Sorry, I can’t allude to anything about price until it closes.”

The grandiose Bay View house is currently listed at just under $1.8 million, down from its original asking price of $2.1 million in July 2020.

The city has assessed the property at a little more than $1.7 million.

Zielinski was even less talkative about the deal. He left office last year after 32 years as an alderman and county supervisor.

Reached at the house this week, the retired politician answered the doorbell, said “Hi” and then slammed shut his front door.

Good to see you, too. Dubbed the “Milwaukee Monstrosity” because of its size and location, the palatial estate certainly stands out in its quiet residential neighborhood.

The three-story, industrial-looking home sits on an eighth-acre lot squeezed among post-World War I bungalows and colonials near Bay View Park.

City Hall records show that Zielinski and his wife, Annette, bought a 1921 two-story, five-bedroom colonial at the address in March 2017 for $330,000 — razing it shortly thereafter. The pair then took out a $700,000 construction mortgage.

In place of its modest predecessor, the Zielinskis put up the 40-foot-tall modernist mansion with 5,901 square feet of finished living space.

“This contemporary style home ticks all of the boxes for modern luxury living,” says the real estate listing.

The three-bedroom, four-bath behemoth includes an elevator, gym, office with a nine-foot rolling library ladder, three fireplaces and solar panels. The house has a “zen garden” on the deck above the garage and a luxury bath with a Japanese soaking tub and steam shower.

On the front, the mansion features floor-to-ceiling windows with remote shades and a clear view of Lake Michigan. The garage is nearly as big as many of the surrounding houses.

Zielinski started construction on the home while he was running for Milwaukee mayor, drawing even more attention to the project.

Unlike the house, however, Zielinski never made it to the finishing line.

He ran a distant third in the 2020 mayoral primary, picking up only 16% of the vote. He did not run for reelection for his 14th District alderman seat, now held by Ald. Marina Dimitrijevic.

Zielinski still owns a second home on South Superior St. That one is assessed at only about $260,000.
