State teen a finalist in Kulwicki program
Luke Fenhaus, a finalist in the Kulwicki Driver Development Program in 2019, has made the top seven again.
The 16-year-old from Wausau was among the finalists that were named Monday when the list was trimmed from 25 semifinalists: 15 holdovers from last year, when the program went on hiatus, and 10 newcomers.
The KDDP which was established in 2014 by the estate of Alan Kulwicki – the late 1992 NASCAR champion and Hall of Famer from Greenfield – to help worthy drivers toward reaching their racing dreams while at the same time keeping Kulwicki's memory and legacy alive.
The seven finalists announced Monday will each receive a one-time stipend of $7,777 – a nod to Kulwicki's car number – and support with publicity, marketing, sponsorship development and networking. The “Kulwicki Cup” winner will pick up an additional $54,439 ($7,777 times seven). Fenhaus won the super late model championship at State Park Speedway and has competed on the ARCA Midwest Tour and in premier specials. He plans to race regularly this season at Slinger Speedway. Other 2021 Kulwicki Cup finalists are: Wyatt Alexander, 21, Ellsworth, Maine.
Max Kahler, 17, Caledonia, Illinois. Ryan Kuhn, 20, East Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
Kole Raz, 18, Lake Oswego, Oregon. Brooke Storer, 22, Land O' Lakes, Florida.
Dylan Zampa, 17, Napa, California. Kulwicki Cup competition runs from April 1 through Oct. 31.
Finalists will be judged for on-track performance and such factors as community engagement and keeping Kulwicki's memory alive.
The first two winners were from Wisconsin, Ty Majeski of Seymour in 2015 and Alex Prunty of Lomira in 2016.
