Case count, average both rise on Friday
Both the daily COVID-19 case count and the average case count increased on Friday, as cases continue to trend in the wrong direction.
The Department of Health Services reported 1,092 cases on Friday, the highest mark since Feb. 11. The seven-day average increased to 764 cases, up 373 cases from a month ago and the highest mark since Feb. 14.
The seven-day average has increased every day for the past week.
This trend comes at a time in which health officials are particularly concerned about variants and their heightened risk in children.
More than a third of Americans have received at least one dose
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported Thursday that 33.7% of Americans have received one dose, while roughly 66 million or 19.9% are fully vaccinated.
Anthony Fauci, President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, said he thinks the share of people who need to be vaccinated for the U.S. to reach herd immunity is “somewhere between 70 to 90 percent.”
