3.4M COVID-19 shots given, state’s weekly average cases rise

More than 1.3 million Wisconsini­tes have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the state health department reported Saturday.

That’s nearly 24% of the state’s about 5.8 million residents who have received both doses of a Pfizer or Moderna vaccine or one Johnson & Johnson shot, according to Wisconsin Department of Health Services data.

More than 3.4 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccines have been administer­ed since December, according to the state health department. More than 2 million Wisconsin residents have received at least one dose of a vaccine, which is about 37% of the state’s population. The vaccine is not yet authorized for children younger than 16.

Officials say 340,235 vaccine shots have been administer­ed this week through Friday.

Seventy-eight percent of Wisconsini­tes age 65 and older have received at least one shot, the state reported Saturday, and 69% have completed a vaccine series.

The number of tests coming back positive for COVID-19 continues to rise.

On Saturday, the seven-day average of confirmed daily cases hit 778, the highest that number has been since Feb. 13, according to DHS. The seven-day average is double what it was a month ago.
