Stars coming back (sort of) at movies
Every week at the movies, it gets a little closer to normal.
How much closer? This week, two biggish movies with big-name stars open — at the same time.
Here’s what’s new in Milwaukeearea theaters starting Friday, and which new movies are available on streaming and on demand this week.
Note that about a third of the Milwaukee area’s movie theaters are still closed: the Oriental Theatre, the Times and Rosebud cinemas, Fox-Bay Cinema Grill, and Marcus Theatres’ Saukville and Showtime cinemas. The ones that reopened have in place safety measures including reduced seating capacity.
‘Spiral: From the Book of Saw’
Short version: A tough cop and his rookie partner take charge of a murder investigation that echoes those grisly Jigsaw cases from the past. Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson and Max Minghella star in this latest chapter in the “Saw” saga, which bounced around the calendar during the pandemic.
Where you can see it: AMC Mayfair Mall; Marcus Theatres’ Bistroplex Southridge, Hillside, Majestic, Menomonee Falls, Movie Tavern Brookfield Square, North Shore, Ridge, Southgate, South Shore cinemas.
Chris Rock, left, and Max Minghella are on the case, if they can figure out what it is, in “Spiral: From the Book of Saw.”
‘Those Who Wish Me Dead’
Short version: Angelina Jolie plays a fire warden and survival expert in Montana who tries to protect a teenager who’s witnessed a murder from a pair of assassins — and a fast-moving forest fire. Nicholas Hoult, Tyler Perry, Finn Little and Aiden Gillan star in this semiWestern directed by Taylor Sheridan (“Wind River”).
