Triciclo Peru joins Zocalo Food Park, extends season in Bay View

- Carol Deptolla

Triciclo Peru, the west side Peruvian restaurant, is bumping up its south side presence: Its food truck is joining Zócalo Food Park in Walker’s Point, and it extended its season as a vendor at Humboldt Park in Bay View through March.

The truck is in place and could start selling its 10 varieties of empanadas and other Peruvian street food as soon as Friday, said Amy Narr, who owns Triciclo Peru with Mario Diaz.

Other Peruvian street food on the menu at the launch will be yuca fries, salchipapas (fried hot dog with steak fries and sauce), and Triciclo Peru’s version of chicken wings, served with Peruvian pepper sauce.

The truck will be open at Zócalo from 4 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturdays; and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sundays.

At the Humboldt Park Pavilion, Triciclo Peru will sell its empanadas as well as coffee, hot chocolate and tea for ice skaters and others at the park.

It will be open there from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.

Triciclo Peru has been a vendor at

Humboldt Park, 3000 S. Howell Ave., during beer garden season, but the pavilion usually is closed in the winter.

Narr and Diaz proposed to Milwaukee County Parks that they continue operating in the winter to provide snacks and hot drinks to people using the park for snowshoeing, ice skating and other activities.

“Let’s keep this space active,” she said.

That means park users will have access to the pavilion’s restrooms over the winter, as well, she said.

Triciclo Peru, which got its start as a mobile food vendor in 2017, opened its restaurant at 3801 W. Vliet St. in 2019. It began operating a stall in Crossroads Collective food hall, 2238 N. Farwell Ave., in late 2020.
