Browns DT allegedly was nude, punched cop
Cleveland Browns defensive tackle Malik McDowell, who was given a second chance by the team after serving jail time, was arrested Monday in Florida on charges of beating a police officer and public exposure.
Police in Deerfield Beach, Florida, said they were responding to a “naked male walking near a school” when an officer approached McDowell, who was sitting on a curb, according to the arrest report. The officer said McDowell stood up, uttered an obscenity at him and “charged at me full speed with a closed fist.”
McDowell, 25, fled before he was stopped using a stun gun and handcuffed.
McDowell was charged with aggravated battery on an officer, resisting an officer/obstructing with violence and exposure of sex organs in public. Bail was posted at $25,000. It was unclear if he had an attorney who could speak on his behalf.
Jaguars’ McCray charged: Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end Lerentee McCray made an obscene hand gesture at a police officer, fled a wouldbe traffic stop and then reached speeds of 100 mph and crossed three lanes of traffic during an ensuing chase, authorities in Jacksonville, Florida, said Tuesday.
McCray, 31, was arrested early Sunday, booked in the Lake County Jail and charged with fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, according to jail and police records. The charge is a second-degree felony. He was released on a $5,000 bond about seven hours later, according to jail records.
Tavares Police Department officers who ultimately stopped McCray after the Fruitland Park Police Department broke off its chase said he “appeared to have an altered mental state.” He was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
Vikings interview woman for GM:
The Minnesota Vikings announced Monday night they had completed an interview with Philadelphia Eagles vice president of football operations Catherine Raiche.
Raiche was believed to be the first woman ever to interview for an NFL GM job. She has spent the past three seasons with the Eagles and four years before that with CFL and XFL teams. Raiche is among the highest-ranking women in football operations in the NFL.
Others candidates interviewed include John Spytek, the Tampa Buccaneers’ vice president of player personnel and a Pewaukee native, and Kwesi Adofo-Mensah, vice president of football operations for the Cleveland Browns.
Cardinals season “a massive failure”: Star defensive end JJ Watt, who returned to the field three months after tearing up his left shoulder, left disappointed and frustrated Monday after the Arizona Cardinals were eliminated in a 34-11 loss to the LA Rams.
“It was a massive failure,” Watt said. “I mean, from what we were capable of doing and what we showed we can do, to what we showed today. There’s no other way to describe it than as a failure.”
