Amazon.com Inc. is expanding its Kenosha operations and adding up to 400 jobs — the latest in a series of Wisconsin developments by the retailer.

Amazon will lease a 1 millionsquare-foot distribution center at 10601 38th St. being developed by Rosemont, Illinois-based Venture One Real Estate, according to an announcement from the Kenosha Area Business Alliance.

That facility is expected to begin operating in early 2023, and will create up to 400 jobs, the alliance statement said.

The company will use the building as a regional distribution center.

The new operation is east of Amazon’s fulfillment center that opened in 2013 along Interstate 94 and has since been expanded.

The company has more than 3,000 employees in Kenosha.

“Amazon has been a wonderful addition to our community and I am pleased to see the new distribution center will add further employment opportunities offering substantial benefits,” said

Mayor John Antaramian, in a statement.

That news comes after the Wisconsin State Journal reported Friday that Amazon plans to develop a 3.4 millionsquare-foot distribution center on 145 acres near the intersection of County Highway TT and County Highway N, just north of Interstate 94, in Cottage Grove.

The $200 million facility project would employ 1,500 people.

The company’s other Wisconsin operations include a 2.5 million-squarefoot fulfillment center in Oak Creek, which opened in October 2020 and has 1,500 employees.
