End of a ‘Jurassic’ era (maybe)

- Chris Foran

The dinosaurs are back. Is it for the last time? Do movie franchises ever really end?

If so, they brought the band back together for what's billed as the last “Jurassic” chapter.

Here's what's new in Milwaukeearea theaters starting Friday, as well as some of the new movies available on streaming and on demand this week.

‘Jurassic World Dominion’

Short version: In the third — and, allegedly, the “conclusion” — of the “Jurassic World” movies, themselves spun off the three “Jurassic Park” movies, the dinosaurs that now live among humans start turning on the humans who, after not leaving things well enough alone, do it again. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are joined by the O.G. “Jurassic” crew, including Laura Dern, Jeff Goldblum and Sam Neill.

Where you can see it: AMC Mayfair Mall; Avalon Theater; Marcus Theatres' Bistroplex Southridge, Hillside, Majestic, Menomonee Falls, Movie Tavern Brookfield Square, North Shore, Ridge, Saukville, Showtime, Southgate, South Shore cinemas; Oriental Theatre; Silverspot Cinema.

‘Benediction’

Short version: British film master Terence Davies (”The Long Day Closes”) paints a portrait of World War I soldier and poet Siegfried Sasson in this period drama, with Jack Lowden playing the writer in his younger days and Peter Capaldi as Sassoon in his later years, wrestling with the horrors of war and coming to terms with his own sexual identity. Jeremy Irvine, Gemma Jones, Kate Phillips, Julian Sands and Tom Blyth co-star.

Where you can see it: Marcus Theatres' Majestic Cinema.

‘Small Town Wisconsin’ adds Wisconsin screens

After having its theatrical (non-film festival) premiere last week at the Oriental Theatre, the filmed-in-Wisconsin “Small Town Wisconsin” gets a wide release — well, in Marcus Theatres in Wisconsin, anyway, including the Hillside, Majestic, Menomonee Falls, North Shore, Ridge, Showtime and South

Shore cinemas. (It's also continuing at the Oriental for another week.) (Note: “Small Town Wisconsin” also will be available on video-on-demand services starting June 10.)
