Pop-ups, a taproom and more new spots

-

Clear your calendar: There's a lot to eat and drink this weekend.

PufferFish, the pandemic-born tiki bar that was a hit on Lost Whale's patio last summer, pops up Friday on the roof of Hotel Metro, 411 E. Mason St. And that will turn into a summer weekend residency stretching into October.

But first: The rain-or-shine, drop-in pop-up is from 4 p.m. to midnight. The rooftop has a glassy indoor bar and 1,500 square feet of open patio space, with views that stretch into the Third Ward.

Find updated classic drinks like the Zombie and new ones such as the rumpapaya Get Lost, an ode to Chicago's late Lost Lake bar.

And Hotel Metro will have tropicalish small plates, including banh mi sliders and sweet-soy chicken kebabs. Drinks will be $11 to $15, plates $15 or less.

Greenery by the shop Soiled will be part tropical atmosphere and part plant sale — any of it can be purchased for home.

Wolf on Broadway, the restaurant opening this year in the new Kinn Guesthouse downtown, will preview dishes 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Uncle Wolfie's Breakfast Tavern, 234 E. Vine St.

On the menu: starters (like tamarindchicken hand pie and chips and dip) and two kinds of salads (such as brussels sprouts), sandwiches (ham, guava jam, smoked gouda), and desserts (like passionfruit bars).

No reservations — diners can sip a drink outside or browse the adjoining

Orange and Blue store while they wait.

More pop-ups to come, co-owner Wolf Schaefer said, featuring entrées, brunch and more.

Good City Brewing debuts its newest taproom at 11 a.m. Friday at the Mequon Public Market, 6300 W. Mequon Road.

Samples of classic and newly released beers will be poured on the patio, with steins for $8 and pints of fan faves for $5. Customers who arrive by bicycle can buy a pint and get one free.

Good City's kitchen will prepare giant pretzels ($11.95), chicken Caesar salads ($12.95), reubens ($14.95) and more.

Everyone’s Ice Cream, a new sibling to Flour Girl and Flame pizzeria in West Allis, will have a brunchy soft opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Railroad Park, 8125 W. National Ave., West Allis.

Expect brunch pizza from Flour Girl, Press waffles, cold brew floats, music and dog adoptions, plus ice cream from Milwaukee companies.

And in other ice cream news, the public can influence which of eight new-flavor finalists from 300 entries will make it onto the Purple Door Ice Cream rotating menu.

The 2022 Battle of the New Flavors Contest is Sunday through June 19 at the scoop shops at 205 S. Second St. and 6300 W. Mequon Road, Mequon.

Customers vote for their favorite after trying the flavors in a mini flight for $10.
