C-viche restaurant sets its opening date in Shorewood

- Carol Deptolla

C-viche restaurant, serving Peruvian, Mexican and other Latin specialties, is debuting its Shorewood restaurant in November.

Karlos Soriano, a native of Peru, owns the restaurant with Paco Villar, a native of Mexico. Soriano said the Shorewood restaurant is due to open at 4330 N. Oakland Ave. on Nov. 15.

It’s always possible the opening can be delayed — the partners originally thought the restaurant would launch in summer 2021, but pandemic supply-chain issues disrupted the timeline. But Soriano said the restaurant also might open sooner than expected; Cviche would announce any changes on its Facebook and Instagram pages.

The design of the Shorewood restaurant will be similar to the original C-viche restaurant at 2165 S. Kinnickinnic Ave. in Milwaukee, with two major differences.

The Shorewood location will have an open kitchen, and it will have a ceviche bar, where four patrons at a time can sit and watch the cook behind the counter prepare their ceviche or Nikkei sushi to order. (A significant Japanese population in Peru has influenced the country’s cuisine.)

“That’s what we have in Peru,” Soriano said of the ceviche bar. “It’s fresh and it’s right there,” he said of the fish dishes, so customers can see that the menu items are made to order.

The menu in Shorewood will be the same as at the Bay View location, with dishes such as lomo saltado, the stir-fried steak dish with tomato, onion and french fries; chicken enchiladas in green sauce; and scallop tacos. Main dish prices range from about $13 for a vegetable pasta dish to $56 for Argentinian churrasco.

The restaurant has plans to launch Sunday brunch later.

Hours at the opening will be 4 to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

Happy hour will be 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at the eight-seat bar only, with $7 drink specials and $10 tapas, such as anticuchos, ahi tuna ceviche and shrimp scampi with bread that’s been grilled with chimichurri butter.

C-viche also will have takeout and online ordering at c-viche.com.

?? PROVIDED BY C-VICHE ?? The new C-viche restaurant in Shorewood will seat about 32 people in the dining room, plus eight at the bar and four at the ceviche bar. The restaurant serving Peruvian, Mexican and other Latin dishes is due to open in November.
