Here’s what is new and happening at Golden Owl Café

- Cathy Kozlowicz

As soon as people walk into Golden Owl Café in downtown West Bend, they will immediately “feel kind of cool,” said Patricia Goeman, one of the owners.

The inside is “warm, gorgeous, cozy, refined and very lush,” she said. “The décor is almost like a lifestyle.” Goeman said the floors have marble in them; there are high beams, big windows and different pops of color. She said the lighting is super unique.

“I don't know how to explain it,” she said. “People just have to come in and see it.”

Golden Owl Café was called Mavens on Main, said Goeman. The name changed as one of the original owners, Staci Neilsen, decided to focus her energy on a custom dessert business called the Sugar Mae•ven. Now, the name has changed so as not to confuse the two businesses. Golden Owl Café opened May 10 with an updated menu, hours and decor, said Goeman.

“There is no other coffee shop in downtown (West Bend),” Goeman said.

The Golden Owl Café is at 243 N. Main St. in downtown West Bend, at the corner of Mill and Main streets. It shares a building and an owner with Saloon Royale. Goeman said Saloon Royale has a rustic vibe and people can go back and forth between the two establishments.

The restaurant serves a variety of breakfast items such as banana chia pancakes, biscuits and gravy, a banana pecan oatmeal bowl, a breakfast burrito and chicken and waffles. There is also a selection of desserts. In the future, Goeman said the eatery will be open for lunch with a lunch menu.

On its menu are espressos, steamers, cappuccinos, cold brews, teas, frappés, ice teas and smoothies. There are also signature drinks such as Chai tea latte, pecan pie — a drink with espresso, steamed milk, butter pecan and cinnamon syrup — and the snickerdoodle — a drink with espresso, caramel, cinnamon and vanilla syrup.

Golden Owl Café can seat about 35 to 40 people and is 1,070 square feet.

Hours are 6 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday through Friday and 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday and Sunday.
