MILWAUKEE - Age 93. Reunited with his beloved wife, Celine (nee Meller), son John and parents Felix and Marcy (nee Dembowa) Grzeszkiew­icz on Sunday, February 11, 2024. Survived by children Chris, Jeff, Carey (Roland), Jim (Kelly) and Paul, grandchild­ren and great-grandchild­ren.

After graduating from UW-Madison in 1952, Bernie completed training at the Naval Officers’ Candidate School and was commission­ed as an ensign in the Naval Reserve. Bernie married Celine Meller and served 3 years with the US Navy in San Diego as the top secret control officer for the Pacific Fleet Training Command and then in the Far East aboard the attack carrier USS Wasp as the officer of the deck and as division and training officer. After active duty, Bernie taught chemistry at Bay View High School for 16 years and served as assistant vice principal for 6 years at Bay View High and 7 years at South Division High School. In 1974, The Wisconsin Society of Profession­al Engineers honored Bernie as one of two outstandin­g chemistry teachers in Wisconsin. During his career in high school education, Bernie served 26 years in the US Naval Reserve, retiring as captain after commanding 3 divisions and working 3 years with Readiness Command 313 at Illinois Great Lakes Naval Base.

After retirement, Bernie volunteere­d with Habitat for Humanity and as a 2nd grade reading tutor. Bernie thanks his team of assistants, especially Cliff Carl.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 3722 S. 58th St., Milwaukee, at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024.

Memorials to the National Alliance for the Mentally Ill (Milwaukee Chapter) or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church are appreciate­d.
