Wisconsin hotel wins global travel award

Wisconsin is an outdoors destinatio­n, and it keeps getting the accolades to prove it.

Last week, The Dyrt named Bayfield’s Sailr Springs Glamping to its top 10 glampgroun­ds in the U.S. This week, Women’s Health declared Nekoosa’s Sand Valley Resort the best hotel for outdoor activities in its annual Health Travel Awards.

Sand Valley Resort is known for year-round offerings, most notably its four golf courses. A fifth is expected to open in Summer 2024, but the resort also offers tennis courts, nine miles of hiking trails, biking, kayaking, pond hockey and more.

Sand Valley Resort will host four amateur U.S. Golf Associatio­n tournament­s in the coming years. Sand Valley will host the U.S. Mid-Amateur in 2026. That tournament will be held on the newly constructe­d Lido, a private course on the resort. It opened for play in 2023.

The resort will then host the 2029 U.S. Junior Amateur, the 2030 U.S. Women’s Mid-Amateur and the 2034 U.S. Girls’ Junior.
