WIAA task force submits realignment proposals
STEVENS POINT - The WIAA conference realignment task force sent revised proposals to the board of control this week for potential finalization at the April 23 board of control meeting.
Recommendations to the board of control included realignment proposals concerning the Greater Metro, North Shore, Southeast, Woodland and Classic 8 conferences. Individual program moves from a variety of conferences toward the formation of a yet-to-benamed conference were also advanced to the board. Among the proposals were the following:
● The Greater Metro Conference maintaining a nine-team configuration with Divine Savior Holy Angels and Marquette as gender-specific members. They would stay with fellow Greater Metro members Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Germantown, Menomonee Falls, Sussex Hamilton, Wauwatosa East, Wauwatosa West and West Allis Hale.
● The formation of a new North Shore Conference consisting of Cedarburg, Grafton, Hartford, Homestead, Nicolet, Slinger and Whitefish Bay. A yet-to-benamed conference would be formed from current North Shore members including: Port Washington, West Bend East, West Bend West and current East Central Conference members including: Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Kewaskum and Plymouth. Current Fox River Classic Conference member Sheboygan South would also join the to-be-named conference.
● Oak Creek would move from the Southeast Conference to the Classic 8, joining current members including: Arrowhead, Catholic Memorial, Kettle Moraine, Mukwonago, Muskego, Oconomowoc and Waukesha West.
● Current Classic 8 members Waukesha North and Waukesha South would move to the Woodland Conference, joining Brown Deer, Cudahy, Greendale, Greenfield, Milwaukee Lutheran, New Berlin Eisenhower, New Berlin West, Pewaukee, Pius XI Catholic, Shorewood, South Milwaukee, West Allis Central, Whitnall and Wisconsin Lutheran to form a 16-team league. The exact splitting of the teams into two divisions would be contingent on if the recommendation is approved.
The board of control will have final consideration of the proposals at its meeting on Tuesday, April 23. If approved, the changes would be implemented for the 2025-26 athletics seasons.
