WIAA task force submits realignmen­t proposals

STEVENS POINT - The WIAA conference realignmen­t task force sent revised proposals to the board of control this week for potential finalization at the April 23 board of control meeting.

Recommenda­tions to the board of control included realignmen­t proposals concerning the Greater Metro, North Shore, Southeast, Woodland and Classic 8 conference­s. Individual program moves from a variety of conference­s toward the formation of a yet-to-benamed conference were also advanced to the board. Among the proposals were the following:

● The Greater Metro Conference maintainin­g a nine-team configuration with Divine Savior Holy Angels and Marquette as gender-specific members. They would stay with fellow Greater Metro members Brookfield Central, Brookfield East, Germantown, Menomonee Falls, Sussex Hamilton, Wauwatosa East, Wauwatosa West and West Allis Hale.

● The formation of a new North Shore Conference consisting of Cedarburg, Grafton, Hartford, Homestead, Nicolet, Slinger and Whitefish Bay. A yet-to-benamed conference would be formed from current North Shore members including: Port Washington, West Bend East, West Bend West and current East Central Conference members including: Kettle Moraine Lutheran, Kewaskum and Plymouth. Current Fox River Classic Conference member Sheboygan South would also join the to-be-named conference.

● Oak Creek would move from the Southeast Conference to the Classic 8, joining current members including: Arrowhead, Catholic Memorial, Kettle Moraine, Mukwonago, Muskego, Oconomowoc and Waukesha West.

● Current Classic 8 members Waukesha North and Waukesha South would move to the Woodland Conference, joining Brown Deer, Cudahy, Greendale, Greenfield, Milwaukee Lutheran, New Berlin Eisenhower, New Berlin West, Pewaukee, Pius XI Catholic, Shorewood, South Milwaukee, West Allis Central, Whitnall and Wisconsin Lutheran to form a 16-team league. The exact splitting of the teams into two divisions would be contingent on if the recommenda­tion is approved.

The board of control will have final considerat­ion of the proposals at its meeting on Tuesday, April 23. If approved, the changes would be implemente­d for the 2025-26 athletics seasons.
