GET TO KNOW OUR MANY PARKS
With more than 150 public green spaces in Milwaukee County, why not get out and explore a few? Let your interests guide your way.
BEST FOR WATER FUN
LINCOLN PARK, 1301 W. Hampton Ave., Glendale
Float in the lazy river at the David F. Schulz Aquatic Center. Lie under an umbrella and sip a cold drink. Swoosh down a slide and plunge into the refreshing pool. Even the youngest will enjoy the zero-depth pool. Afterwards, check out the playground and grill a picnic lunch.
BEST FOR A FAMILY BEACH DAY
GRANT PARK, 100 E. Hawthorne Ave, South Milwaukee
With one of the longest beaches in the county, you have a lot of options for splashing your feet in Lake Michigan or skipping stones. Burgers, custard and beach volleyball await you at the south end of the park.
BEST FOR RENTALS
VETERANS PARK, 1010 N. Lincoln Memorial Dr., Milwaukee
Try a stand-up paddleboard, kayak around the lagoon or bring a few friends to try the pedal boats. Prefer dry land? Rent a cruiser bike or go large with a multi-seat surrey bike. Feeling adventurous? Get on a Segway and follow the paved path along the lakefront.
BEST FOR A FULL DAY OF FUN
ESTABROOK PARK, 4400 N. Estabrook Dr,
Overlooking the Milwaukee River and accessible from the Oak Leaf Trail, this park has lots of options, including hiking, fishing, biking, disc golf and skateboarding. Meet with friends over a cold drink at the beer garden and listen to live polka music while the kids play at the playground. You can even bring Fido along for a run through the fenced dog park.
BEST PLAYGROUND
FRANKLIN WOODS NATURE CENTER, 3723 W. Puetz Rd., Franklin
Let the kids loose on the all-accessible, all-inclusive play area built in memory of Kayla Runte, a child born with cerebral palsy. With unique equipment not found elsewhere, you can swing with small children facing you, race them on the rings or climb together. There’s even a little free library.
