‘What Happens to All the Road Salt?’

When I lived in St. Francis until November 2017, I often tasted very salty tap water after rain storms during the warmer months, [similar to the issues raised in “What Happens to All the Road Salt,” April]. I tested the water on one such occasion with a kit, and the sodium registered very high. Why can’t containment barriers be installed to trap runoff? What is this doing to aquatic life in Lake Michigan? Is anyone studying this?
